Advocacy
For me, advocacy is about how my life of raising a daughter who is blind has evolved. She inspired me as a mother to be out front advocating for her future, but the journey has been broader than expected. The dynamics of our community turns towards greatness when it is inclusive of all people.

Social Justice

“Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other’s welfare, social justice can never be attained.” Helen Keller

We must hold the policymakers, our representatives accountable for equity and social justice. Women deserve equal pay. Students with disabilities must have equal opportunity to graduate from a quality secondary education so that they are college ready or they move on to a productive work life. Early learning is imperative for students who speak English as a second language. We need after school programs that engage young people and prepare them for adulthood. Workers have a right to collective bargaining. Criminal justice, above all, must be reformed so that the poor is not over incarcerated. We are all free to be who we are and no right shall be held back from any one individual.

Public Safety

Gun violence, school safety, and the mental health crisis continue to threaten public safety. Legislators have a responsibility to create laws that ensure our safety. Gun sense laws are necessary in saving lives. Access is too easy for felons, mentally ill, and other harmful people. It is unfathomable that guns are in the hands of repeating domestic abusers. Students deserve to go to school and be assured that they will have a learning experience free from worry over safety. Far too many young people are tackling the influence of drugs and alcohol with limited behavioral health solutions. Our vote must be in favor of those who will guard public safety.

Veterans Health

“Our veterans who fall on hard times and find themselves without a home deserve more than just hand-wringing or kind words. They deserve real help that gets them back on their feet.” Michele Obama

Veterans, even today, have stories of homelessness, post traumatic stress disorder, divorce, raising children with disabilities, cancer, and single parenting to mention a few. There will be no stone unturned to protect veterans’ health. After all, they sacrificed greatly to protect our freedom.
